From Evening Prayer Wednesday of the 7th Week of Easter

“In vain is your earlier rising
your going later to rest,
you who toil for the bread you eat
when He pours gifts on His beloved
while they slumber.” – Psalm 127

From the reading (1 Cor. 2:9b-10)

God has prepared – God has revealed – Love Him

What is it that God prepares? It is my heart. As the farmer tills the soil, preparing it for planting so too the Divine farmer works in my heart. He removes the weeds; the stones; the thorns – every selfish inclination. He fertilizes it with His love and plants the seed of desire, the desire for His presence. He works in the deep parts of my being, unknown even to me and He reveals it not all at once but as I am capable of receiving it. Little by little, gently and with great care the Lord reveals his plan for me, the work I am to do for Him. The only response necessary is to love Him in return. Everything else will come from this.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the heart of your servant and enkindle in me the fire of your divine love. Amen.
