Sing Gratefully to God

Word of God

Father, I thank you for the gift that music has been for me. Through song and text you have held me close; comforted me; called me and led me. I see clearly you hand, your presence with me, even as I played that old upright piano in our garage as a young boy. I would practice those hymns over and over, sing the texts in my mind. It became a kind of mantra until my heart absorbed the message, “praise to the holiest in the height.” “I am the good shepherd, I pasture my sheep. For them I lay down my life alleluia.” “Sing with joy to the Lord all you lands. Serve the Lord with gladness.”

 

In your wisdom you found a way in and you planted a seed within me. Thank you Father, the seed you planted continued to call me back to you even when rebellion and the lure of this world tried to deafen me to its call. It calls me still.

Your love is everlasting, your mercy endures forever, in your love find a way into the hearts of those who do not know you or whose hearts are hardened to your presence. Plant a seed in them too that together we might all come to praise you Father who lives and reigns with Jesus your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
